Dedicated Servers FAQ
What is a dedicated server?
A dedicated server is a computer which is housed in our secure datacentre, that can be used for a variety of purposes exclusively by you. This means that you will generally have a higher degree of flexibility and performance as well as being a more stable and secure system.
What can a dedicated server be used for?

You have full control to use the server in what ever way you need. Some example uses are as follows:

  • Web server for hosting web sites
  • Mail Server
  • DNS server
  • FTP server
  • Database Server
  • Application Server
How do I control and administer my server?
You have full access to install the software of your choice and administer the server remotely using Windows Remote Desktop on Windows 2003 machines or full root access via a Terminal Client on Linux machines.
What happens if my server needs to be rebooted?

All our dedicated server accounts include access to an APC power management control panel which gives you full access to reboot your machine remotely.

What software is installed on my server?

When you order your server you can choose which software is installed. Centos Linux is installed free of charge but you can opt to have RedHat ES or Windows 2003 Server installing if preferred.

If you will be using the machine for hosting web sites a Plesk Control Panel can make the administration very easy, without need for any in depth knowledge of Linux or Windows.
